Convening the world's experts

SRRC convenes annual symposia bringing together leading researchers, ethicists, and technologists to advance the roadmap.

03a / Symposium 1, September 2025

Outcomes of the inaugural symposium

SRRC's first expert convening, September 26 & 28, 2025.

The Space Reproduction Roadmap Consortium (SRRC) shared its first results toward developing a long-term, ethically grounded research roadmap. Experts from reproductive medicine, space biology, technology, ethics, law, and geopolitics highlighted that permanent human settlements beyond Earth are only possible if safe reproduction in space can be achieved.

The symposium identified major knowledge gaps related to reproductive stressors in space environments, all of which may severely impact fertility, embryonic development, and childbirth. Participants emphasized the urgency created by upcoming space tourism and long-duration missions, where both planned and unplanned pregnancies could occur. Beyond enabling space settlement, the roadmap is expected to generate significant benefits for reproductive medicine and maternal health on Earth.
